Harnessing the potential of National public development banks
National Public Development Banks (NPDBs) are key but uneven players in financing water and sanitation. This Water Finance Coalition study draws on the experience of 14 NPDBs, analyzing their role in domestic public service finance and highlighting opportunities to scale their contribution to SDG 6, the Paris Agreement, and biodiversity protection.
Public Development Banks’ Investments in Water (2021-2023)
Public Development Banks (PDBs) are increasing investments in water and sanitation, surpassing $108 billion between 2021 and 2023. This Water Finance Coalition report analyzes data from 37 PDBs, highlighting key trends, rising climate finance, and the sector’s role in resilience building.
Despite progress, a $140.8 billion annual financing gap remains. Encouragingly, $21 billion was tagged for climate action, reflecting growing commitments.
